Welcome and interaction with the Salesians
The past two weeks has been an honour to welcome and interact with the Salesians.
Last week the College welcomed the Salesian Regional Director, Fr Joseph Nguyen SDB. Fr Joseph joined us from Rome where he works with the Rector Major on his regional tour where he is responsible for Salesian works in 23 countries in Asia, Oceania and the Pacific. He shared his story of becoming a Salesian, formation of Salesian priests, and his love of working with young people in the spirit of Don Bosco. In touring the school he witnessed a year level mass, saw our great facilities and spoke to our inquisitive students in classes. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to learn of the Salesian works across the globe and how they too could contribute to the mission.
Upon being welcomed to our staff, the commentary that emerged was that Fr Joseph epitomised our Salesian values of respect, belonging, integrity, joy and dynamism.
The College also recently had a visit from our Salesian Provincial, Fr Will Matthews SDB. Fr Will’s love of teaching and ministry to the young was evident as he walked the Bosco campus talking to our students learning in the classroom. He too addressed our staff, thanking them for their outstanding work supporting our students during challenging times.
You may or may not be aware that Salesian College Chadstone has a community for those who have dedicated themselves to a religious life in the spirit of Don Bosco. Fr Will and the Leadership Team had the pleasure of sharing a meal with the community. The experience was enlightening talking to the trailblazers of the Salesian Order who established our charism in schools and ministry in Australia.
“To know that you are young is sufficient reason for me to care for your welfare. I care for you, because you have in your hearts the treasure of virtue.” – Don Bosco
