Mannix Minus18 Sausage Sizzle

On Friday the 28th we had the student-led Mannix Minus18 Sausage Sizzle. It was a great event, with hundreds of sausages and drinks sold. We ended up with over $680 in the tills, for a profit of hundreds of dollars, going to the fabulous Minus18.
Minus18 is a great St Kilda based charity that runs education and events for and about LGBTQIA+, transgenderism, acceptance, and many other queer matters. This community is of increasing importance in our growing world and it was heart-warming to see that the community harbors so much support for this vulnerable group within it. Many thanks go to the many volunteers that helped, especially Abel Ebi Joseph, who along with me was one of the main organizers of the event.

More thanks goes to the many teachers and members of the community who helped, such as Assistant Principal Mrs Knight and her Faith and Mission Team, as well as Mr Bourbon, Assistant Principal for Students, along with Mr Chen, Mr Azar and the Student Leadership Team comprising of Ms Dow and Mr Chow. I’d also like to thank Mrs Helen Sharpe at the Canteen for her support, specifically with catering and the storage of food, as well as the Facilities Team for running back and forth to get grills and bring all our items.

We had a huge team of volunteers, who decided to help out of the goodness of their hearts, and all poured in time from their lunchtime to help out.

Most of all, thank you to all the teachers and boys who bought a sausage on the day, we thank them for their generosity. This event is a showcase of the potential that student voice and the Student Congress has, and it was all great to see, and we hope from next year in Year 10 we still have the chance to host amazing events like this.
