Dante Alighieri Poetry Recital Competition

On May 30th, Italian students from years 9 to 12 had the opportunity to compete in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recital Competition, at Melbourne University along with other schools studying Italian. We were nervous and used the bus ride to the city for some last minute poem recitals.  When we arrived, we were able to explore some areas of the university and we were asked to wait in a lecture theatre for our turn to recite in front of a judge. Year level by year level, we were called into the recital rooms to present, and we were all very nervous.

As soon as we finished a wave of relief washed over us.  Our hard work had paid off, and we were treated to a pizza lunch at ‘Café Correto’, which the College generously provided us. After lunch, we spent time exploring Lygon Street, learning about the culture and heritage of this area.

The competition was an exciting experience and provided a great opportunity for boys studying Italian to challenge themselves, expand their knowledge of Italian culture, and improve their oral language skills.
