VM Students Explore Aerospace and Helicopter Engineering

On the 22nd of July, a group of boys from Salesian College Chadstone VM classes went on a school excursion to aerospace facility Bombardier. Here, they service, repair, and sell private aeroplanes. The staff at Bombardier gave us a guided tour of the facility, where we had the opportunity to view several private planes. These aircraft require a significantly greater attention to detail in their design and manufacturing compared to commercial planes used for domestic and international travel.

Following our visit to Bombardier, the students proceeded to another company called Leonardo, where they manufacture and service helicopter gearboxes. Some of these gearboxes, used in emergency service helicopters, can be valued at over $35,000. Although there were no helicopters on-site during our visit, we were shown the machines used to produce the helicopter parts and explained their functions.

The day provided valuable learning experiences and highlighted the diverse nature of different trade fields.
