VCE Australian History Class Excursion

On Tuesday the 20th of August, the VCE Australian History students explored Melbourne in an ‘Amazing Race’ style excursion. Students went from Richmond to Parliament, far and wide to find clues relating to our studies of Australian history. One task was to start a ‘USA’ chant on Swanston Street, a reference to Prime minster Harold Holt’s famous slogan ‘all the way with LBJ.’ Unfortunately, no one else joined in. This helped us consolidate our learnings through experiencing and witnessing what we have been learning.

Before this we had a tour in Nation Gallery Victoria, where we learnt about art relating to our studies and the importance of art as a source of history. We also had a guided tour of the Shrine of Remembrance, where the passionate guide explained the effect of war on Australian society through personal anecdotes and the numerous relics within the memorial.
