Year 8 Experiential Learning Days

During our Year 8 Experiential Learning Days, students delved into the concept of democracy by creating their own political parties and developing campaigns to address key issues within the broader community. Topics included animal rights, sustainability, and anti-cyberbullying. The students produced videos and flyers to persuade their classmates to vote for their party in the 2024 Year 8 Salesian College Chadstone Election. They then participated in a formal vote using the preferential voting system, which they will encounter in future elections. To enhance the authenticity of the experience, the Victorian Electoral Commission provided ballot boxes and voting booths.

The following day, the focus shifted to Business and Economics. Working in small groups, students devised business ideas and explored the decision-making processes necessary for generating profit and launching their ventures successfully. They dedicated their lessons to researching innovative and engaging promotional strategies and financial management techniques to ensure profitability. The day culminated in students pitching their business ideas to the class, which acted as potential investors.

The Experiential Learning Days were a tremendous success, providing students with practical insights into democracy and business. The hands-on activities and collaborative projects not only deepened their understanding but also sparked enthusiasm and confidence. This immersive experience has equipped them with valuable skills that will benefit their future learning and development.
