Design Development – Stage 1 Mannix Project

The College undertook an extensive consultation process with teaching staff and students throughout the middle of 2024, during the Design Development phase of the Stage 1 Mannix project. Design development involves determining materials, systems, equipment, and the design that will begin to represent the completed building works. Working drawings supplied by the architect and project sub-consultants were reviewed through the consultation process with staff and students to understand the layout, fit-out, and functionality of the designed spaces, ensuring a “fit-for-purpose outcome” for our students and staff.

Consultation regarding the ‘fit-for-purpose’ concept in General Learning Areas (GLAs), specialist teaching spaces (Science, Art & Design, and Technology), audio-visual requirements, learning and teaching aids, learning diversity, and wellbeing requirements for students were incorporated into the development of architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and estimates from building elements identified in the previous Schematic Design phase of the project, which was completed in early 2024.

In conjunction with the architects, project sub-consultants, and quantity surveyor, further cost planning, procurement plans, fit-out requirements for individual spaces, finalizing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical services, and an additional round of workshops with specific College staff and students in the Year 7 and 8 cohorts were completed in preparation for lodging the Town Planning Application (TPA) for the Planning Permit to commence the Stage 1 Mannix project.
