Ecology and Sustainability Commitment
At Salesian College Chadstone, our commitment to fostering ecological practices and protecting our common home aligns with our Vision, Mission, and Values. As a dynamic, joy-filled Catholic learning community, we strive for excellence in sustainability, inspired by the spirit of Don Bosco.
Guided by our Vision, Mission, and Values, our vision is to create a sustainable future where our students, staff, and community work together to protect and nurture our environment.
ResourceSmart Schools Program
We are proud to be part of the ResourceSmart Schools Program, a Victorian Government initiative that helps schools benefit from embedding sustainability in everything they do. We are on our journey towards achieving a five-star rating, demonstrating our leadership in sustainable practices.
Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL)
As a member of EASL, we engage in professional development, learning, and networking opportunities. This collaboration enhances our ability to implement sustainable practices and educate our students on the importance of ecological responsibility.
Food Waste Recycling Program
In partnership with Monash Council, our Food Waste Recycling Program aims to reduce food waste and promote composting within the school community. This initiative not only helps the environment but also educates students on the significance of reducing waste.
Deposit Return Scheme
We are a proud donation partner for the Deposit Return Scheme, encouraging recycling and waste reduction. This program helps fund our sustainability initiatives while teaching students the value of recycling.
Salesian Green Alliance
Our student environmental and sustainability club, the Salesian Green Alliance, plays a crucial role in driving our ecological efforts. This club meets bi-weekly to plan and implement various sustainability projects, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership among our students.
Taking Action: Laudato Si’
We are actively working on our Laudato Si’ Action Plan, inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’. This plan outlines seven goals that guide our actions in caring for our common home:
1. Response to the Cry of the Earth
2. Response to the Cry of the Poor
3. Ecological Economics
4. Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles
5. Ecological Education
6. Ecological Spirituality
7. Community Engagement and Participatory Action
Through education, action, and collaboration, we aim to make a lasting impact on our planet, inspiring future generations to continue this vital work.
